International Classical Art Connections (ICAC) is a 501(C)(3) approved non-profit organization dedicated to promoting International Arts & Culture in the Upstate. As part of this endeavor, ICAC has joined hands with NSOD in presenting the Dance Drama Ballet 'GANESHA', on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 @ 5:30 PM at the McAlister Auditorium in Furman University.

This cultural exposition event is aimed at supporting engagement, networking & awareness of Asian culture among the community as well as helping them engage in cross cultural dialogue through a broad range of artistic and cultural experiences.

The Dance Drama Ballet 'GANESHA' will showcase the cultural and spiritual values of India. This dance drama is to be presented in the Indian Classical art form called “BHARATHANATYAM”. This dance form is over 3000 years old and is noted for its footwork, and a vocabulary of sign language based on gestures of hands. The story is narrated through hand movements, eyes, and facial expressions. Many of the Indian sculptures are based on Bharatanatyam dance postures. In ancient times, it was performed by temple dancers called “Devadasis” and later on, brought to the stage as performing arts at the beginning of the 20th century.

'GANESHA' will be a visual treat to both adults and children alike, through the portrayal of characters from Indian mythology and will be performed by approximately 40+ ensemble of actors, dancers and musicians. This Dance Drama Ballet is a beautiful combination of song, drama and dance. It is heightened by the dramatic moments of the narratives through inclusion of exciting elements of emotions, war and dances, and a visual treat of palaces, mountains, forest and battlefields. The music is to be provided by live professional Orchestra with the accompaniment of a vocalist, flutist, drummer (mridangam) and a violinist.

This production is being choreographed by Mrs. Sunitha Raj, Artistic Director of NSOD. We sincerely hope that you will show your support by attending this cultural extravaganza. It is an achievement just not for performers, but an achievement for the entire Upstate community. Art cannot be forgotten. Especially, art that brings to life the culture and values of a faraway civilization that could inspire you or the budding mind of a child next to you. We are counting on you. Help International arts flourish right here in our neighborhood.
