Offering Bharathanatyam lessons is the primary focus of NSOD. Our students are trained in both the practicals and the theory of Bharathanatyam called the Natyashastras. Natyashastras offer a systematic education in the basic dance steps (Adavus), hand gestures (Mudra), eye movements (Nethra/Dhrishti), neck movements (Attami), rhythms (Taal), facial expressions (Bhava), and the other rules and principles that make up the the foundation of Bharathanatyam.
In addition to Bharathanatyam, we offer a glimpse of other Indian classical dances like Kathak, Kuchpudi & Odissi to our students.
We also offer specialty dances such as Snake dance and Peacock dance.
At NSOD, we strongly recommend all dancers to pursue Bharatanatyam because of the intense and disciplined method of learning that it offers. However, when learning Bharatanatyam is not feasible or is not of interest to the student, the student may opt to learn semi-classical, folk or bollywood dances. Students will be taught the dances on an as needed basis to complement and enhance the dance items that they are learning at any given time. Private lessons are also being offered to students that would like to learn a particular dance, whether individually or in a group.
Classes are held Saturday mornings. Different sounds have different effects on human psyche.
